Clitoral Stimulation Basics

Although some of its aspects are still hotly debated, everyone agrees that the clitoris is a tremendous source of pleasure for women. Unfortunately, it rarely receives the attention that it deserves. Women often complain that men can’t find it, or, if they do, they don’t spend nearly enough time on it.

Hopefully after reading the information on this page you’ll fully understand and appreciate the importance of the clitoris.

The Function of the Clitoris

Amazingly, the clitoris serves no other purpose than providing a woman with sexual pleasure. With more than eight thousand nerve fibers, It’s the only organ in the human body that exists solely for pleasure.

Simply put, the clitoris was built for orgasms.

When a woman becomes sexually aroused, the clitoris fills with blood and increases in size just like a penis. After orgasm, which causes a dispersal of the accumulated blood, the clitoris will return to its normal size. If, heaven forbid, the woman doesn’t have an orgasm, the blood may remain there for a few hours and cause discomfort. This is pretty much the male equivalent of “blue balls”.

Locating the Clitoris

Although every woman is different, the clitoris will be located in the same basic area. Look for a small, round bud located above the vaginal opening.

It will be covered by a soft fold of tissue called the “clitoral hood”, which protects the clitoris from overstimulation. During arousal, the clitoris will enlarge and the hood may retract to reveal the tip of the clitoris. You can also gently pull back the hood with your fingers if you want a better look.

Some women don’t like direct stimulation to the tip of their clitoris. Instead they’ll prefer stimulation through the hood or on the sides. More on that later.

The Clitoris You Can’t See

There’s more to the clitoris than meets the eye. The tip we described earlier is just that. The tip. The clitoris is made up of a shaft and base that extends along the vagina walls and into the body.

In fact, the infamous G-spot is likely to be nothing more than the back end of the clitoris. This would mean that all orgasms are clitoral. Are you starting to see just how important the clitoris is?

Clitoral Sensitivity and Lubrication

Clitoral sensitivity varies from woman to woman. Some may prefer a light touch while others may enjoy much more vigorous stimulation. To further complicate things, some may enjoy light stimulation at first but require a firmer touch the closer they are to reaching orgasm. It’s best to start out light and vary your touch depending on the reaction.

Don’t touch the clitoris if it isn’t properly lubricated. This can be a turn-off to some women and downright painful for others. Use her own natural lubrication or a water-based lube.
